Beach Day at Sentosa

Sentosa Island in Singapore is one of the most relaxing places here that also offers a mix of adventures. Whether you’re looking for thrilling activities, peaceful beach moments, or great food experiences, Sentosa has something for everyone. In this blog, we’ll take you through an unforgettable day in Sentosa.

Skyline Luge

If you love adventure and speed, starting your day with the Skyline Luge is a must. Located in Sentosa’s lush greenery, this ride is suitable for both kids and adults, making it perfect for families and thrill-seekers alike. Make sure to pre-order your tickets online and select a time period that you want to play. I recommend two rides and avoid noon times when the sun can be really bright, because there will be a line if you come during weekends or holidays.

The luge operates on gravity, allowing you to control your speed as you zip down the specially designed tracks. There are a total of four tracks:

  • Dragon Trail (688 meters): A scenic route winding through the forest.
  • Jungle Trail (628 meters): A trail with tighter corners and more curves for adrenaline lovers.
  • Kupu Kupu Trail: This newer track is family-friendly and easier to navigate.
  • Expedition Trail: Perfect if you want to test your skills with steeper inclines.

After completing the luge, head back up using the Skyride, a scenic open-air cable lift that offers stunning panoramic views of Sentosa, the South China Sea, and even the Singapore skyline. But do be careful as it does not have a cover. Make sure your phone doesn’t drop when you are taking pictures up there! A pro tip I would give is to wear comfortable clothing and secure footwear, as loose items may fall off during the ride.

Palawan Beach

After the adrenaline rush at the luge, slow things down with a visit to Palawan Beach. Sentosa has a good variety of beaches to choose from, the Palawan Beach is my personal favorite.

Palawan Beach is one of Sentosa’s most family-friendly beaches. The shallow waters are perfect for both adults and children to swim safely. You can also rent sun loungers, parasols, or bring your own picnic mat for a comfortable day on the beach. There are also restaurants and beach clubs right by the beach where you can enjoy a snack or a drink while hanging out with family or friends.

One of the highlights of Palawan Beach is the suspension bridge that connects the mainland to a small islet. The islet is marked as the “southernmost point of continental Asia.” Walk across the bridge and enjoy the view from the lookout towers on the islet for a 360-degree panoramic scene of the ocean. Do note that the bridge closes at 6:00 PM. So get there early if you want to get to the other side.

As the sun starts to dip, Palawan Beach transforms into a magical setting. The vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples of the sunset sky reflect beautifully on the water. Whether you take a sunset swim or just sit on the sand and enjoy the view, this moment will stay with you for a long time. You might also see peacocks getting around as the temperature starts cooling down!

Food Republic

No visit to Sentosa is complete without indulging in some delicious local foods at Vivocity Food Republic. This food court brings together a variety of stalls serving Singaporean favorites, all in a beautifully designed space that reflects the local cultural heritage. There are two food courts in the mall. Usually the one located on the fifth floor is more packed than the one located at B2. So we usually go to the one in B2 where there’s more choices and less crowds.

Top Dishes to Try at Food Republic

Fish Ball Noodles:
A light yet flavorful dish with springy fish balls, flat or thin noodles, and savory broth or chili sauce. The “mouse tail” noodle is my favorite type. And I always choose the dry one instead of the soup one as it has more flavors. This local favorite is perfect if you want something simple and comforting. Add a dash of vinegar or sambal chili to elevate the flavors!

    Vietnamese Bánh Mì:
This is a crispy baguette sandwich filled with meat (choose from grilled pork, beef or chicken), pickled vegetables, and pâté. The pickled radish in this sandwich is the highlight. It’s a satisfying meal if you’re in the mood for something handheld and flavorful.

    Iron Plate Rice:
This sizzling dish is served on a hot iron plate, with rice topped by your choice of grilled meats, vegetables, and sauce. This stall is a local favorite and you will possibly see a line during rush hours. Their salmon and beef are really popular and also super affordable! The ingredients continue to cook slightly on the plate, giving the rice a crispy edge and the sauce a rich, caramelized flavor.

How to Make the Most of Your Sentosa Day

To ensure you have an amazing time on Sentosa Island, here are a few tips:

      • Don’t push yourself: You don’t need to arrive early and rush; Sentosa is about relaxing and doing nothing on the beach is just as rewarding as making detailed plans for every hour on the island.
      • Bring sunscreen: Singapore’s tropical weather can be harsh, so apply sunscreen regularly.
      • Stay hydrated: There are water stations around the island, but bringing a reusable water bottle will keep you hydrated throughout the day.
      • Use the Sentosa Express or trams: Getting around the island is easy with these transportation options, saving you time and energy.

      Conclusion

Sentosa Island is truly a gem in Singapore. Whether you’re zooming down the Skyline Luge, enjoying the serene beauty of Palawan Beach’s sunset, or feasting on delicious food at the Food Republic, every part of your day will be filled with joy and unforgettable memories.

So, if you’re planning a visit to Singapore, make sure to set aside a day or two to explore the wonders of Sentosa—you won’t regret it!
